OHS Priorities

The Head Start Resource Center works closely with the Office of Head Start (OHS), including the immediate Office of Head Start, the Programs Operations Division, the Head Start Regional Program Units, the Educational Development and Partnership Division, the Quality Assurance Division, and the Policy and Budget Division on national priorities and program improvement initiatives.

Representative OHS Priorities

  • Health – including obesity prevention, mental health, oral health, and other areas
  • Early Learning and Literacy – promoting school readiness, encouraging positive child outcomes, and supporting English language learners
  • State Collaboration Offices – developing significant multi-agency and public-private partnerships (state pre-kindergarten and child care) between Head Start and the States
  • National Head Start Fellowships Program – developing OHS leaders of the future
Also important are:

  • Promoting economic independence and social well-being of individuals and families
  • Protecting the safety and fostering the well-being of children and youth
  • Encouraging the development of strong, healthy, and supportive communities
  • Addressing the needs, strengths, and abilities of vulnerable programs
  • Enhancing communications
  • Promoting the effective use of technology
